You know that move guys do?
The move where they forget their spouses birthday and in a last-ditch effort throw a gift together really quickly? Ya, this is nothing like that. I made this desk for my girlfriend’s 30th birthday and it was the result of a lot of planning and work in the months leading up to the big day. Don’t get me wrong, I’m totally the last minute gift type of guy. Just not this time.
While I was looking for a way to update

Don’t you just love those pictures of vintage
suitcases stacked one on top of the other. There’s just something about the look that makes me think of a life well-traveled and filled with adventure and I really my own stack of suitcases sooo badly. But they’re so hard to find and terribly expensive. We needed to make another plan. And the plan involved these broken suitcases and a boring pine chest of drawers.
A few years ago, we had one of our
closets turned into a little secret “home office” work space. We added some built-in shelves and a desktop into the closet. However, we never really paid much attention to the work space and it become sort of a “catch all” in our house. We recently had our major built-in desk installed in our family room, and this poor little work space was feeling some major desk envy!
Our little laundry & utility room was functional,
but it wasn’t as functional as it COULD be. I wanted to make it a pretty space with more storage. With a small budget and a lot of elbow grease, my husband and I transformed our laundry room into a vintage-inspired red & aqua retreat!
