It’s best to use 3 different colors
(dark grey, light gray and white/cream) to achieve the look, but choose the shades in accordance with your house décor and color scheme.
You can use any wooden table, regardless of its color – even with mahogany or dark cherry tables you can achieve the desired light color by using a good oil-based primer.
Start by sandpapering the whole surface of the table, scraping down uneven spots and any debris, then wipe clean. Proceed with a primer – oil-based for a table that has a shiny varnish topcoat or is dark-colored and regular water-based, if otherwise.
