Next, I stained them using my favorite stain. I love how the stain brings out the dents and grooves from distressing them.
I also drilled some pilot holes for attaching them to the chalkboard.
I attached the 1 x 2’s to the chalkboard using screws and hex nuts. I attached a piece of rope for hanging it by using a hammer to nail in an electrical staple to the back of the board.
Next, I seasoned the board by rubbing a piece of chalk all over it and then wiping it off with a dry cloth. It’s important to season chalkboards so you don’t get ghost marks when you erase your writing later on.
